News from 28th March 2007 to 26th June 2007
Celebrations:
-
The first day of Baisakh was celebrated on 15th April, 2007 with puja, prayer at the Brahmananda Bhavana Shrine.

Ashrama Foundation Day (Akshaya Tritiya) was celebrated on 20th April, 2007. Swami Prabhanandaji presided.

Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated on 9th May, 2007 at 4-30 p.m. in front of Brahmananda Bhavana. Dr Angshuman Bhattacharya, Principal Puspita Ranjan Bhattacharya delivered lectures. Principal Maharaj spoke. Prof Arup Biswas sang. Students recited and sang. Prof Achintyam Chatterjee gave the vote of thanks.
Vacation :
Summer vacation started for the first year students from 29th March, 2007 for a month. The M. Sc. students, however, attended the classes during the vacation.
Examinations :

Our students of B A and B Sc Part II (2+1) of the session 2004-07 appeared in the Part II examinations (Theory) conducted by the University of Calcutta in the month of April (23rd to 30th), 2007.

Annual Selection Test of first year under-graduate students began on 15th May, 2007 and ended on 26th.

The post-graduate Chemistry students appeared in the Part II (M.Sc. final) examinations organized by the Department of Chemistry during the month of April, May and June, 2007.

The Admission Test for admission to 1st year Honours courses was held on 10th June, 2007 (Sunday) from 12 noon to 4-15 p.m. The list of the selected candidates was published on 18th June, 2007.

Special puja were organized at Brahmananda Bhavana for Part II (1+1) examinees and Part I (1+1+1) examinees on 16th June and 25th June, 2007 respectively.

First year U.G. Students (243) filled in their C.U. Forms for final Part I (1+1+1 system) examination on 29th March, 2007.
Meetings :

A meeting of the teaching and non-teaching members of our college was held on 25th May, 2007 at the new College Hall for detailed discussions and information on UGC proposal of granting Autonomous status of our college.

A meeting of the Teachers' Council was held on 19th June, 2007 at the Shakespeare Gallery at 2 p.m.
Move towards Autonomy :
On receiving a letter from the UGC, New Delhi in the month of May, 2007, regarding its proposal for granting Autonomous status to our college, the college prepared a detailed and exhaustive Report in the given format and sent it to the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal and to the Registrar, Calcutta University respectively for obtaining NO OBJECTION Certificates from them. The Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal issued the No Objection Certificate on 29.05.2007 and No objection Certificate from the Calcutta University was obtained on 22.06.2007 on the basis of the Report of a Higher Level Inspection Team of the University led by Dr Suranjan Das, Pro Vice-chancellor (Academic), which visited our college on 21.06.2007. The application, submitted on 30.05.2007 is now under consideration of the University Grants Commission.
Placement Cell Report :
Chembiotech offered recruitment letters to 8 students of Chemistry P.G. Part II (final) through Campus Interview on 12th June, 2007.
A Rare Distinction for the College :
Our college received the official confirmation by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) as a centre for Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO). The college applied to the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India on November 8, 2006. Consequently our college was visited twice by them. They also invited us to defend. Accordingly Dr Prasanta Ghosh and Br Ajitachaitanya attended the meeting in New Delhi.
